WRITING
Writing is fun and easy, requiring no laboratory, only pen and paper. Various kinds of books can be created for whatever reason you can find, even magical ones. Artistry and musical notation are also covered by the Writing skill, if you're bit by the doodlebug or find yourself humming a tune you want to share.
This is one item creation where materials mean relatively little. Magic paper or ink will turn your writings into something beyond what is written here, but it is by no means required. The true power is in the soul invested in your writings.
Things created with Writing are generally good for selling. You can have them published and gain dividends based on how the market recieves it.
The practical usefulness of books counts on two factors, their length and their quality. Length is determined by how long you work on said book, while quality is determined by your skill and roll. You may end up with five hundred pages of crap, but you could also end up with a pamphlet on great jewish sports legends.
Length affects the duration of a book, and in some cases the time it takes to complete it. Usually, the longer the better. In some cases the length doubles as the duration its effects last, in others it is an investment toward a greater reward at the end.
Quality affects how great the effect of a book is.
Books can be reused, but not by the same character. One can only be reading one book at a time.
When writing, you dictate ahead of time how many Hours you intend to spend on the book, then roll. You can then Abort, halving the final length of the book but also saving half of the Hours spent. You can Reroll, hoping for a better final creation. Or you can simply continue on if you're happy with both your roll and your hour cost.
Fiction;
Writes an entertaining work of fiction. Declare a genre and the basic concept of the story. Fiction books generally provide a passive effect for the duration they are read, such as stat boosts.
Possible genres; Horror, Occult, Drama, Romance, Sci Fi, Fantasy, Historical, Comedy
Nonfiction;
Autobiography
Write an autobiography about your warrior career to help out budding young adventurers.
Prophecy
Length doesn't matter. Requires Incense to attempt. This form of item creation attempts to write a prophecy about the next boss monster you are likely to face, or at least one of them. The better your roll, the more information you'll get. This takes half an hour regardless.
Research Paper
Again, length doesn't matter. Writing a Research Paper allows you to study a previously encountered enemy and try to capture as much information about them as possible. Usable on bosses as well as standard enemies, and again, the better you roll, the more information you'll get. Takes half an hour, regardless.
How To;
Item Creation Skill
Share your general knowledge of item creation with your friends and neighbours. Your skill in the field you are writing about is just as important as your Writing skill in this case.
Recipe
Write down the recipe for an item. You must -have- the item you're creating a recipe for, and not all forms of Item Creation can be reciped out. Obviously, you must know how to create the item yourself in order to make a recipe. This is easiest if you actually created the item yourself.
Having a recipe makes creating more of that item, for you or others, much easier. It also allows you to attempt Mass Production of certain items.
Ability Scroll
Create a scroll that others can use to learn an ability you know. These scrolls can be quite handy, and they prevent you from needing to spend Hours to teach it to others.
Art, Music;
Art and Music work roughly the same way. You declare what you are creating with as much detail as possible, and state a Muse. A muse can be anthing. It is also a good idea to state what feeling you are trying to evoke with the work, or what your intent in creating it is. If it is music, you can state a genre if you like.
The primary difference between art and music is that art is static while music depends on the skill of the one playing/singing it. Songs can also be empowered if they are played/sung by multiple people. Songs can also be learned like abilities.
The advantage of artistic endeavors is that they have a broader range of effects, more magical potency, and don't need to be 'maintained'. You just set it up and its effects continue as long as it sits there.
Exact rules for these two forms are a work in progress, so go easy on using them if you please.
