Chapter 1: The Tournament that Changed Everything
You’re probably wondering why I’m writing this, instead of training. Well, I always felt that I should’ve kept a log of my personal adventures, so I decided to do that now. Who am I? Well, I’m definitely not some evil monster, nor am I a buff guy. I’m a simple Mushroom Mage, who is the apprentice of Master Mario. My name is Mystic, and I would like to tell you everything, all in this one book.
The Smash Tournament. The place where all the heroes, anti-heroes, and villains meet to clash with no strings attached. The tournament was meant to hone your skills, and to prove who’s the best in all the worlds. Master told me about this (Oh, Master is Mario, but I must use the proper names), and he also said that he was going. Why? Well, he almost became champion last tourney. He lost to some guy named Falco, and when I asked who he was, he said he was just some bird. So, I just kinda shrugged on that one. Nonetheless, I was hellbent on joining Master in the tournament, and he allowed me to. I was so excited to prove my skills… and then I learned Master Luigi was coming too. It was probably the first time I haven’t seen the green one scared, and actually willing, I was quite surprised. Maybe this tournament would be fun.
By the time we got there, we were literally out of Mushroom Kingdom. In fact, we were out of the world, and into another one. How did that happen, you ask? Apparently, there was a time when worlds become connected just for this tournament, and it creates a dimensional gateway for all worlds to meet in one specific world. The name of it? Well, No-Man’s Land. Something was quite odd though. When we got through, it seemed like Master and Master Luigi went into this serious mode, and haven’t said a word while they went through the crowd. In fact, they were so serious that they literally didn’t hear me, who was at the time fighting the crowd to get to them, but, it was to no avail. However, it turns out that Blitz was also trying to get to the Mario Brothers as well, but he ended up getting to me.
A small note on Blitz. He’s a warrior for Mushroom Kingdom. You know, with the hammers and stuff. He’s quite powerful, and many of his moves could make you lose your memory, and quite possibly your head. Personality-wise, he’s a nutcase. He always talked about how some Super Gerbils scared him when he was a baby, but… I never seen any Super Gerbils. Oh well, he’s still a good friend, I suppose.
It wasn’t long when I got to the arena where all the preliminaries were being held. Blitz and I had to separate due to the fact that they’re only one-on-one matches. My match ended up being against some thing with a giant blue eye. I later found out it was a Waddle-Dee, from Kirby’s world. Who’s Kirby? Well, more on that later. I found the Waddle-Dee to be a bit… eh, well, cute, like a teddy bear, but that didn’t stop me from kicking it’s butt. Rest assured, it was a well-earned fight, but I was just ready for more, much more. After I defeated Waddle-Dee, he was put in an infirmary for healing, and I just marched through the next door.
Well, I made it to the lounge, where it was basically a resting place. I don’t know, but I was really ticked that I couldn’t fight more, but then I remember that Master told me that I shouldn’t jump into action headfirst unless you’re trying to save someone, and I’m pretty sure that Master has more than enough experience on that, so I calmed down. I later saw that Blitz was done with his match too, with minor pain, much like me, and when I was watching a T.V, Master and Master Luigi were doing quite well with their battles. Master finished his with flying colors. Master Luigi had a bit of trouble though, but he finished on top though. I later saw that there were two more people to look out for. First person was Li, who looked oddly intimidating due to the fact the guy was freaken tall, and Pitch, a mysterious person.
More notes. Li is a rouge from his own world. You know, he steals stuff. He said he came from the Fire Emblem world, but there wasn’t any true name for the place due to the many legends, where the world’s name is constantly changed. Pitch is a guy made out of dark matter. I don’t really know what that is, but he’s completely made out of darkness, which gives him many dark powers, and he has a pretty cool looking sword to top it all off too. Despite that, Pitch and I became fast friends.
Later, Master Luigi walked out, and he almost immediately fell asleep on a chair. I didn’t wake him up, as he was quite tired. However, when I saw Master walk out. I decided to go to him, but I stopped. Master ended up literally jumping on the couch and falling asleep just like that. I was a bit mad, I wanted to tell him about my fight. However, fatigue eventually got to me too, so I fell asleep as well. But, when I woke up about an hour later, guess who was right up in my face? The guy with the spiky shell. That’s right, him. Bowser, Master’s long time nemesis. For some reason, I’ve always had a resentment towards him. Maybe it’s because of the fact that he likes Princess Peach Toadstool, and made it a hobby to capture her. Yeah, that’s probably it. However, the king koopa just waved at me and walked off. Odd, I guess no hard feelings are prohibited on the Smash Tourney… I guess.
Soon enough, it was time for the remaining fighters to get to the next floor. We were greeted by some guy who can pull himself out of a hat… weird, but effective. We all got on an elevator, and Blitz was right beside me. While the elevator lifted up, we found out the weird guy was the host of the Smash Tourney, which was nice, I suppose. I kept a close eye on Master and Bowser. For some reason, they didn’t look hostile towards each other, which was odd to me. Nonetheless, we all got to the top level, and we all walked towards the arena. We were ordered to all stand in pods for turn order, and each fight were to be one-on-one. I was so excited. For some reason, I was hoping that I would face my Master. A pure one-on-one fight with him would be so grand. But instead…
A weird black demon arose from the shadows, and he sealed all of the capsules. Turns out his name was Alastor. Alastor would be the reoccurring bad guy if this was a video game. He’s a powerful, malicious, but perverted demon. He gave me a lot of trouble during our early days, and anyone that was with me during the times before the apocalypse would remember him well. I had a lot of resentment towards the guy, but it all eventually diminished in a period of time… that reminds me, we still have a fight to finish.
I was deeply confused… until a never-ended shock began to strike my body. It my powers were being sucked dry… I didn’t know what to do. I looked around, and noticed that Master and Master Luigi were having the same treatment, and Blitz as well. All I could think was… damnit, that’s all I could thought of. It felt like the end, and I couldn’t lay a finger on that guy. However… I got my chance.
The host of the tournament, appeared out of nowhere, and he broke off the sealings on a few capsules before he ended up losing all his energy. My capsule, happened to be mine, and I later found out that Li, Blitz, and Pitch were freed too. I looked at Master, Master Luigi, and Bowser. They were still being drained dry, and they were on their last legs… I would have to act quick if I wanted to them. Blitz, Pitch, Li, and I began our assault on Alastor. The demon didn’t expect us to be so powerful, and it showed. Blitz was swinging away while Pitch was doing stylish fighting. Li kept being persistent with his katana, and me… well, I did what I did best. Fireballs, and Jumping. Alastor didn’t stand a chance, and we kicked his butt and dusted ourselves off.
As soon as Alastor was defeated, the pods were broken, and everyone was freed. Alastor slipped away while I went to check on Master and Master Luigi. Turns out they were okay, but tired. I was very happy. For one, the people I knew and loved were in good condition. I didn’t know what I would do if Master and Master Luigi were dead or heavily injured. Two, I was able to save them. It was a bit on a personal level, but I felt like I finally had the chance to protect them, and it showed. Lastly, I finally defeated an enemy that was supposed to be nearly impossible to defeat, Alastor. So, it was a great achievement.
While I tried to take care of Master and Master Luigi, the host showed up again, thanking us for saving the fighters. Since the fighters were drained, the Smash Tourney was forced to close, and the place became vacant. The host decided to give it to us as a gift, and he also asked us to keep a close eye on Alastor… however, I wanted to take care of the Mario Brothers while they were weakened. Yet, Master automatically jumped up and said to take care of things here, and he would be fine. I reluctantly nodded to him, and he took Master Luigi and ran off… Bowser was gone too, but like what villains always do, they always disappear. So, Pitch, Li, Blitz, and I became the founders of the Nintendo Special Forces, dedicated to stopping Alastor.
This tournament changed everything… but… I couldn’t complain.
