I thought of this new Sonic Game a few months back and have been planning on it. It's near complete, but Sonic Team doesn't accept game ideas, sadly. So might as well get some opinions here.
Game Title: Sonic and Shadow
Basic situations:
Sonic: A new threat has invaded Earth and wants the Master Emerald. He has captured Sonic’s friends (Tails, Knuckles, Amy, etc) and successfully stole the Master Emerald. Sonic has no idea who has done this, so he also suspects Robotnik for doing it as well. He has a choice to either go after Robotnik, to investigate the disappearance of the Master Emerald, or to go after the Chaos Emeralds.
Shadow: Shadow knows of the new threat and the fact that he stole the Master Emerald, for that he seen him go back into his base with it. Wanting to keep the Earth safe from destruction, Shadow wants to take him down, but he also feels he should go to Robotnik for help (Shadow trusts Robotnik ever since one of his robots saved him). His other alternative is to go after the Chaos Emeralds.
Sonic’s Main Missions: Chase down Robotnik, Investigate the disappearance of the Master Emerald, find the Chaos Emeralds.
Shadow’s Main Missions: Find and cooperate with Robotnik, fight the new threat, find the Chaos Emeralds.
Background Story:
Robotnik made a recent attack to Station Square as another attempt to build his Eggman Empire. Sonic’s friends agreed to hold off the robots while both Sonic and Shadow went to stop Robotnik. Sonic and Shadow cuts him off before he could make his escape. After a quick battle with Robotnik in his giant robot, Sonic tries to capture him. Shadow stops Sonic and allows Robotnik to escape. This diminishes Sonic’s trust with Shadow and they have to start from ground one.
Storyline between Sonic and Shadow:
There are three ways the two heroes can go towards each other. They can work alone, work together, or fight each other.
Playing as Sonic:
Choosing the majority of these decisions will affect Shadow in various ways:
-Going after Robotnik will make Shadow hate you.
-Going after the new threat will make Shadow build trust to you.
-Going after the chaos emeralds will have no effect at all.
Playing as Shadow:
Choosing the majority of these decisions will affect Sonic in various ways:
-Cooperating with Robotnik will make Sonic hate you.
-Going after the new threat will rebuild the trust with Sonic.
-Going after the Chaos Emeralds will have no effect.
Gameplay:
First of all are the Chaos Powers. Take away Chaos Control as that make courses too easy, unless you make it only stop time and not warp around like in Sonic Heroes. Shadow will keep Chaos Blast. Sonic will get his own Chaos Power called Chaos Strike. Chaos Strike will be a combination of combat moves and chaos control. Sonic uses Chaos Control, then attacks everyone on the screen with Punches/Kicks. For the last enemy he attacks, he will do a slow-mo uppercut. Sonic and Shadow will both have a chaos gauge. They make it rise by defeating enemies. For balance issues, the chaos gauge will drop whenever Sonic and Shadow gets hurt. One more thing, when you use a chaos power, you can only use it once, then the chaos gauge goes all the way back down.
Second of all are the enemies. Keep the health bars at a minimum. It shouldn’t take 30 homing attacks to take down one minion. However some should be cunning and quick. Every minion should have a weapon or some kind of defensive way to protect themselves. Don’t make them stand around or charge at Sonic or Shadow like mindless idiots.
Bosses should take a lot of planning and work, and they shouldn’t be very easy. (Excluding the tutorial boss, which should be Robotnik in the background story). For instance, In the Sonic vs Shadow fight, it shouldn’t be a 3 hit win back in Sonic Adventure. Let’s say you’re Sonic. Shadow will use everything in his arsenal to win the battle. That goes for homing attack, spin dash, light attack, Chaos Blast, etc. Shadow should be cunning and should take almost every opportunity to attack. Also, when Shadow eventually uses Chaos Blast, Sonic’s only way of survival would be to run away from the blast radius, as for it will be a one-hit K.O, regardless of having rings or not. Same thing for Chaos Strike. First there should be a little warning, like them saying “Chaos…” before they use it. For Shadow to survive Chaos Strike, he would have to jump in the air so he can be curled up and protected. This is how Bosses should be like.
For traveling, a lot of people liked the GTA style in Sonic Adventure, but it lacked importance. You should add secrets, extra quests (i.e, chance to save Sonic’s friends and have the ability to play their own side story.), and hidden cutscenes. Sonic and Shadow should have to go to the next stage on their own without, being guided like in the recent games. This should ALWAYS apply unless you want to go to another area where you’ve been at before. (Teleporters will take you to areas you’ve been at before unless it’s blocked off or occupied with a cutscene). This should give a lot of fun and importance to running around.
Sonic and Shadow will need a little diversity towards each other for when they work together. When they do, this would be like Sonic Heroes and the player should be able to switch characters while the uncontrolled one follows behind. (In boss battles the uncontrolled character should have their own AI and fight with you instead of just following you and giving tips.) For the importance of a partnership, Sonic will have the abilities to run up walls for five seconds (disable jumping for the cheaters), and the ability to run along side walls while doing triangle jump (when he stops, make him fall off, you must be at constant speed for this). Shadow will be more battle-hardened and have the ability to go through enemies that has shields and break through walls too hard for Sonic. Shadow will have combat moves (punches, kicks, etc.) to help him out for fighting certain enemies. Keep in mind his combat moves should not be anything strong like Knuckles’ and Rouge’s. They’re just there to help get through enemies with certain defenses. Use these qualities to make the stages more challenging.
The Final Boss battle has been a high let-down in the past few games. Since Sonic and Shadow are invincible it makes the fight easy, so tactics should be involved and there should really be only a few ways to hurt your enemy. So Sonic and Shadow will have the ability to go Super Sonic and Super Shadow as usual. The final boss should have a barrier around him. Super Shadow will be the only one to penetrate his armor with Chaos Spear. (This is excluding Chaos Blast and Chaos Strike… those are the other two ways to hurt him). Super Sonic will have to distract him and the final boss will let down its barrier to make an attack. That is Super Shadow’s only time to make a hit. Keep in mind that this is while they’re both losing rings separately, as in you’ll have to control both to gain rings back. Besides Chaos Blast and Chaos Strike, Super Sonic and Super Shadow will have the ability to use Chaos Control. This will allow some free hits to the final boss for Super Shadow’s Chaos Spear. They should only have the ability to use Chaos Control by having BOTH Super Sonic and Super Shadow’s Chaos Gauges full.
This is my idea, as I thought long and hard over it. I discussed it with a friend of mine and he seems to like it. Please reply to this as I want to know if you like the idea or not.
